According to updated data from analysts at APK-Inform, as of September-May 2024/25 MY, Ukraine exported 2.68 million tons of sunflower meal, which is 29% lower than the figure for the same period of the 2023/24 season and is the smallest volume since the 2011/12 MY.
It is noted that about 49% of the total export of Ukrainian meal was accounted for by the EU, and another 35% by China.
In total, 1.3 million tons were exported to the EU during the 9 months of the current season, which is 22% less than in the same period of the previous season. In the total import volume of this meal by the European Union, the Ukrainian product holds 63% (43% in the previous season), however, besides high competition with soy meal, it is also pressured by Argentine sunflower meal, whose share increased to 28% (20% in the previous MY).
Exports of Ukrainian sunflower meal to China over the same period decreased by 25% and amounted to 944.000 tons. On the Chinese market, the Ukrainian product holds about 60% of total imports for September-April of the current season (71% in September-April of the 2023/24 season). Russian meal occupied up to 27% during the same period of total imports compared to 9% in the previous MY.
There is also almost a fivefold increase in shipments of sunflower meal from Kazakhstan to China, with its share in Chinese imports reaching about 5%.
